Historic and contemporary fiction author Julie Garwood has continued the Buchanan Family series with her latest novel Fire and Ice. The seventh in the series features Buchanan family friend and investigative journalist Sophie Rose. Sophie first made her appearance in this series as one of the supporting characters in Garwood’s 2004 novel Murder List.
In Fire and Ice, Sophie Rose who is the daughter of an infamous Chicago thief has her life threatened by a nefarious scholarly research group. After Sophie interviews one of the group scheduled to run in a Chicago Marathon, the group mistakenly believes she has uncovered their illegal plans hatched while on their Alaskan research sabbatical. After several bizarre accidents occur, Sophie’s best friend Regan and her husband Alec Buchanan, an FBI agent and former Chicago cop suspect Sophie is in danger and enlist the aid of a fellow FBI agent Jack MacAlister to unofficially investigate. As the situation becomes more threatening, Sophie and Jack eventually follow a trail of clues to Alaska. Jack and Sophie’s romantic relationship develops as the investigation continues. If you have enjoyed Garwood’s other FBI thrillers, you will not be disappointed with Fire and Ice.
